This helmet has one thing, and only one thing going for it—it looks cool. That’s it.In your hands, this thing looks and feels amazing. The graphics are super high quality, with a soft-touch matte finish. Once I put it on, however, the disappointment began. My previous two helmets were GMax GM54S’s in Small, which fit me well. The fit on the MD-01 in Small is tight compared to the 54S. The lid feels cheaper and more hollow when closing and opening. When open, if I talk I can feel the helmet flex, as if the whole helmet is made of cheaper materials.Okay, so it’s a budget helmet, what should I expect? If that was the only problem, I could have lived with it. But it wasn’t.On the road, I noticed that this thing is loud. And once I hit about 35, the whistling started. Not a cute whistle, no. Like nails on a freaking chalkboard. What should have been an enjoyable ride was now an exercise in averting a complete mental breakdown.Alright then, I must have gotten a lemon. No prob, I’ll just exchange it.No dice. Helmet #2 had the exact same problem, even a bit worse, in fact. The whistle seems to be coming from the seal around the face shield. It’s definitely a downgraded design over what they used on the GM54S. I don’t know how these things passed through testing and QC with such a terrible seal.Anyway, I wanted to love this helmet but it just wasn’t meant to be. I likely won’t be buying another GMax helmet again.
